CEO of Stamford Park Trust

Anton McGrath

I’m incredibly proud to lead Stamford Park Trust after establishing it in 2019. I attended Bury Grammar School before moving to Aberystwyth University to read Geography and German.

After teacher training, I took up my first teaching post as a teacher of A Level Geography, Leisure and Tourism at Oldham Sixth Form College. During this time, I was promoted to Course Leader for level two Leisure, Travel and Tourism and became a Personal Tutor.

I then moved to Ashton Sixth Form College as Assistant Principal (Curriculum), before joining Greenhead College as Vice Principal (Structures) with responsibility for staffing, quality and the curriculum. This brief widened to encompass Safeguarding, Student Services and Equality and Diversity.

I was promoted to the post of Principal at Greenhead College and began my tenure in August 2013. In 2016, I was delighted to return to Ashton Sixth Form College as Principal and set up Stamford Park Multi Academy Trust in February 2019. In January 2020, Ashton Sixth Form College was graded as Outstanding in areas under the new Education Inspection Framework.

I began my work with Smallshaw Hurst Children’s Community and Save the Children in 2016, becoming Chair of the Board in 2018. As the first from my family to attend university, I have a keen interest in social mobility and the realising of ambition for all children in areas of deprivation.

I have also worked as a Senior Education Consultation for ALPS and has delivered training nationally for the Sixth Form Colleges’ Association (SFCA) and Keynote Educational.

It is a great honour to represent post-16 education on Stamford Park Trust’s Executive Leadership Team.

Being Centre Principal of ASFC is my dream role. I am passionate about sixth form education and feel very privileged to lead a team of staff who want the same as I do; to create an ambitious, inclusive, vibrant learning environment where everyone feels valued and inspired to achieve their best. It is fantastic to now be part of something even bigger than the college and to share this drive with other leaders within our Trust. I enjoy playing a key role in developing Trust-wide strategies so that, together and through our academies, we can impact the lives of more young people across Tameside.

ASFC benefits hugely from being an academy within SPT, particularly the sharing of excellent practice between our teaching and support teams and in welcoming younger pupils from the Trust family into the college for a taste of what comes next after school. My greatest source of pride comes each year when I see the impressive range of destinations former ASFC students progress into, whether this be Higher Education, degree apprenticeships or high quality employment opportunities, and now, as a member of the ELT, a sense of pride also comes from seeing young people progress successfully through our secondary schools and ASFC before going on to achieve their career and life goals.
