Students Take Action to Support Local Causes with First Give

We are really excited and incredibly proud to announce that all three of our high schools: Fairfield, Longdendale and Rayner Stephens High School, will be taking part in the First Give Social Action Charity project this year. First Give is a national charity that inspires young people to make a positive difference to the causes they care about in their local communities, empowering them to be kind, generous and confident while developing valuable life skills along the way.

This project offers a fantastic opportunity for our Year 8 pupils to explore social issues that resonate with them and to take meaningful action that can help and inspire others. Through a series of dedicated lessons, pupils will have the time and space to learn about local social issues and the charities working to address them. Each class will choose a cause and charity to support, before taking part in social action and practical steps to create positive change, such as raising awareness, campaigning or fundraising.

During the Spring term, pupils will bring their learning and experiences together by creating inspiring presentations that showcase their chosen charity, the work it does and the impact of the social action they have carried out as a class. As part of a friendly competition across each year group, the programme will conclude with a School Final, where one presentation per class is showcased. One group at each school will be awarded a £1,000 First Give grant to support their chosen charity, with presentations judged by a panel that includes members of the local community.
