On Friday 5th January, we hosted our cross-trust staff conference. The event is the second of its kind since the Trust formed in 2021 which sees all staff across the Trust come together to collaborate, share ideas and best practice.

The theme of the day was wellbeing, a great chance for staff to input their ideas for the formation of our wellbeing strategy.

CEO Anton McGrath kicked off the day with a look back at everything achieved in the last year, including recent Ofsted inspections, improvements to facilities and developments across the academies.

We were then joined by our key note speaker writer, campaigner and broadcaster Natasha Devon who specialises in mental health, body image and social equality in teenagers, teachers and parents. Natasha focussed on wellbeing and self-care for staff and also supporting students through their challenges, setting the perfect scene to form our wellbeing strategy.

Staff were then split into working groups where they discussed questions around wellbeing and how we could address some of the challenges we face across the Trust. Staff gave great feedback and ideas and we look forward to continuing to work with staff as we develop on this.

The afternoon saw vital academy specific training centred around Ofsted and adaptive teaching.

Mrs Mirfin, Science teacher at Rayner Stephens commented “the session was really informative, especially around mental health and wellbeing, and being able to collaborate and share ideas with the other departments is invaluable”

Helen Wilcox, attendance and Bursary Officer added “I found the sessions so useful, especially around Mental Health and Wellbeing. Everyone I spoke to commented how useful it is to be able to collaborate and we can’t wait for more opportunities to do so in the future.”

There is real strength in our collaboration; we have already seen significant benefits across many aspects of school since we came together and staff thoroughly enjoyed the day and we thank them for their valued input.
