Angels United a team set up by bereaved parents to provide support to all family members following the loss of a baby or child at any age or stage of pregnancy came hosted the first annual #BreakTheSilence football tournament at Ashton Sixth Form College Grass Football Pitches.
On Saturday 1st June, using the power of football and with teams travelling from all over the country from as far away as Gravesend and locally from just around the corner in Stalybridge. 27 games of football, 710 minutes came down to a tense penalty shootout in the final with Holly's Hearts coming from 2-0 down in the final to win the #BreakTheSilence trophy on a penalty shootout.
All 10 teams came together with one goal in common and that was to #BreakTheSilence that surrounds baby and child loss, it was a great day on the pitch with the football played and more importantly the discussions that took place.
We have had the pleasure and honour of working with Angels Utd for the past few years at Astley Sports Village, hosting their Sunday Charity Home Games. Working with local charities like this is a key focus of our operation and our community engagement across Stamford Park Trust Sport, Community & Leisure.
